Old friend wants to come back to GW, but can't remember a char name...
I have a bud that wants to play Guildwars again, but the last time he played was before they had the character name safety feature (yea, THAT long ago). Basically, he can't remember any of his character names and is thus, locked out of his own account.
What can he do to gain access to his account again (or figure out a char name)? |

He might check if he has any screen shots or even skill templates saved that might have a character name (skill templates would only work if he named the template with the character's name in it). Or maybe you have, or from past guild or alliance events he might have participated in. Or old forum posts that he might have put his character name into.
Failing that, hopefully he still has his game activation codes and can simply contact support for their help in getting the information he needs. http://www.guildwars.com/support/default.php |

I had forgotten my char names too when I came back to play. Just contact support about it and give them as much information as possible. It's best if you still have the box and can give them the CD-Key too along with the account's email address. Just look at the FAQ on NCSoft's website, there's a section about this very issue.

He can check his computer to see if he has any old screenshots, so long as he has the party window up (and I don't know anyone who removes that while playing) it will show his character name.
Screenshots by default save to User/Documents/Guild Wars/Screens Also, do you by chance have him on your friends-list in game? That would be a simple way to solve the problem. |

I was gonna suggest what RedDog91 said, if you have him on your friends list, in your guild or whatever you can get one of his character names that way. Worked wonders for me.

Try some of the suggestions in the thread and then contact support. They might have some other suggestions for you and will be able to help you more than guru can. Good luck~
